Through this unit the Psychiatrists and Psychologists of the SEVAC Team reach the doorsteps of different Prisons and Custodial Institutions situated in West Bengal for extending psychiatric care to the mentally ill people housed therein.

Some of the Project Fields are:

  • Dhakuria Vagrant Home

  • Beliaghata Leprosy Cure Vagrant Home

  • Mahalandi Home for 'Wandering Lunatics' (Male & Female), Dist. Murshidabad
    ** It is noteworthy that in the Vagrant Homes mainly the wandering mental patients have been accommodated

Modus operandi of the outreach project

A team of Psychiatrists, Psychologists and Social Workers reach the doorsteps of some Correctional & Custodial Institutions on a regular basis in order to:
  • Screen the residents of the said institutions for identify the mentally ill persons from amongst them

  • Bring the identified mental patients under the purview of Psychiatric Treatment and Psychosocial Training

SEVAC also supplies medicines for the treatment of a group of mental patients housed in different Vagrant Homes

Saplings are being supplied to the stable / recovered mental patients who have been receiving Psychiatric treatment at the Dum Dum Central Jail, so that they can be engaged in the work of gardening.
